The design and development of Moodle has been guided by a particular philosophy of learning, a way of thinking that may be seen referred to in shorthand as a "social constructionist pedagogy". This philosophy is explained more fully by the moodle organisation themselves. As far as PEVE and the LTS are concerned, moodle provides us with the right balance of tools and features backed by sound pedagogic principles.
The Moodle community is growning rapidly and in 2006, the UK's Open University (OU) also decided to move over to using Moodle. The OU is the United Kingdom's only university dedicated to distance learning and their switch to using Moodle will see the largest single use of Moodle in the world. This move by the OU towards moodle will also see the whole moodle community benefit from development work contributed by the OU back to the moodle community.
Latest moodle news:
During the Summer of 2009 PEVE will be updating our moodle installation to the latest version. This will allow us to take advantage of new tools and features. As well as (long overdue) presentation enhancements, moodle will have reached a significant milestone in accessibility; will include a brand new wiki implementation; better submission tools; and an overhaul of its permission system to give greater flexibility over how configure tools for our students.
